John Tully Elder was the son of John Elder and Mary Tully. Born in 1835, he was one of thirteen children. He married Mary Ann Munro on Mar. 27, 1862. To this union were born: Malcolm Munro, Mary Tully, John C., Elizabeth, Christina, Donald Munro. Mary Ann died one week after giving birth to little Donald, leaving six little children without a mother. He married Mary Ann Baird on Nov. 15 1876 in Hinchinbrook. To this union were born three more children: George, James Alexander and John. This was a busy household. He was buried here in Athelstan at the age of 91 years.
