Lamar K. Haas, 71, of Slatedale, passed away Friday evening May 7, 2010, in St. Lukes Hospital-Allentown Campus. He was the husband of Claire H. (Silfies) Haas, they would have celebrated 52 years of marriage on May 24. Born September 2, 1938, in Allentown, he was a son of the late Venus and Lillie (Kerschner) Haas. He attended the former Slatington High School. Lamar began his trucking career while being employed by the former Trojan Powder Company, South Whitehall Township, as a truck driver. He later served as a truck driver for the former Matlack Trucking, Northampton, for several years. In 1968, he formed his own trucking company as Lamar K. Haas Inc., Slatedale, and served as owner-operator until this year. From 1956-59, he served in the Marine Corp., where he faithfully served his country and received an honorable discharge from Camp Lajeune, NC, as a Corporal. He was a member of the former Holy Trinity Union Church, Slatedale, and attended Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, Slatington. Lamar was a life member of Star Hose Company, Emerald, Diamond Fire Company, Walnutport, and the Slatington Skeet Club and was a post home member of Allen O. Delke American Legion Post, 16, Slatington. Lamar was a member of Grundsau Lodge Number 18, Emerald, and Slatington Lodge Number 440, F. & A.M. He was a longtime guitarist with his familys bluegrass band. The joy of his life was trucks, music and mechanics.
Survivors: Wife; sons, Richard L. Rick and his wife Christina of Palmerton, Kevin L. and his wife Jennifer of Slatedale, Keith J. and his wife Sally of Slatington, David J. Newhard and his wife Marlene, Allen H. Newhard Jr. and his wife Judy both of Slatington; brother Lee W. and his wife Evelyn C. of Slatington; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2010, Kevin E. Hunsicker Funeral Home Inc., 4214 Main St., Slatedale. Call 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home, the Rev. James D. Robison Jr. and Pastor Brian Haas will officiate.
Interment, Slatedale Cemetery.
