He attended Bothell High School, graduating in 1933. After this, Jack joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, working on the many roads and campgrounds in the Verlot area. His first employment was with Weyerhaeuser Timber, where he worked on the log boom in Everett. From there, he moved to glazing, where he worked for a good friend at Van Tone Millwork. In 1941, he was drafted into the US Army, where he rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant and proudly fought in all five major battles of the European Theater. Following his discharge in 1945, Jack married the former Joie Margaret George and returned to his job at Van Tone Millwork, continuing his career as a Glazier. In 1968, he joined the Ironworkers Union and worked in this capacity until his retirement in 1977.
Jack's fondest memories were of times with his immediate and extended family, with whom he was very close. He particularly enjoyed fishing, "shootin the breeze" and, in his later years, winters in Arizona and travels to Mexico and New Zealand.
He is survived by Joie, his wife of 59 years; daughters, Lynn Castoriano and Carol Kennard; grandchildren Sarah Castoriano, Chris Lee and Stacia Lee; sister June Nelson; brother Dick Kennard and his wife Ruth; and sister-in-law Margie Kennard as well as numerous nephews, nieces and friends.
We will all miss Jack's wonderful recollections of the "old days" and his quick wit and humor. Services will be at 10 AM on Monday, February 21, in the chapel at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills, 409 Filbert Rd., Lynnwood.
