Hugh Ray Howell, age 71, of 900 Westchester Street, passed away Sunday, April 28, 1991, at his residence. He was born November 24, 1919, in Bedford County, a son of the late Joel Howell and Mattie Holdren Howell. He was a retired employee of the Rubatex Corporation, a veteran of World War II, and a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Eula Bowyer Howell; one son, Hugh L. Howell, Moneta; two daughters, Fay H. Nichols, Coleman Falls; Kay H. Dawson, Bedford; five grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, April 30, 1991, at 2:00 p.m. from the Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford, by the Rev. Wayne Murphy. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 at the funeral home.
