Darla Jan Moon Young, 78, of Barling died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014 in Ozark, AR.
Darla was born in Ozark, AR, on Nov. 21, 1936 to Susan Pauline Marlor Moon and Joseph Alfred Moon of Ozark, AR, who both preceded her in death.
She graduated Fort Smith High School in 1954. Darla attended Fort Smith Junior College and was crowned Miss Westark in 1956. She worked at Dixie Cup and Ballman Elementary in Fort Smith. Darla married Hubert Young of Fort Smith in 1971 and lived in Fort Smith/Barling for the rest of her life.
Darla was an active member of Eastside Baptist Church in Fort Smith and also a member of the Fort Smith Chapter 237 Eastern Star. She loved to travel with Hubert and her family to various campsites and lakes of the surrounding states.
Darla is survived by her husband of 43 years, Hubert Young; her sister, Rita Moon Nagel, 81, of Little Rock, AR, and her four children: Allen and Steve Young of Fort Smith, Kenny Johnson of Tulsa, OK, and Karin Woodruff of Gans, OK. She was preceded in death by her oldest daughter Kathy Shaffer of Ozark, who was 47. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or East Side Baptist Church in Fort Smith, AR.
Family will visit with family and friends from 6:00 -7:30 p.m. Monday, October 13, 2014 at Lewis-Roberts Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith.
