Funeral services for William J. Wheat 83, Retired 37 years from Bell South of Clayton, LA. will be Monday February 10, 2014 at Comer Funeral Home Ferriday LA. with Rev. Larry Walters officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Natchez, MS. under the direction of Comer Funeral Home Ferriday, LA.

William was born November 23, 1930 to the union of Harry W. and Ora Mae Lee Wheat and passed from this life February 06, 2014 at Baton Rouge Medical Center in Baton Rouge, LA. surrounded by his family.

Mr. Wheat graduated from Ferriday High School, was captain on the football team and an avid sports fan. He joined the United States Air Force and was in the Korean Conflict. He was married to the mother of his children Joan H. Wheat for 57 years, and worked for Bell South for 38 years. He will be missed.

Mr. Wheat is preceded in death by his parents Harry W. and Ora Mae Wheat, his wife of 57 years Joan H. Wheat, two infant children and two grandchildren John and Sarah Wheat.

Survivors include three children William Wheat Jr. and wife Fran of Crofton, Maryland; Edward Wheat of Clayton, LA.; Laura Wheat White of Winnsboro, LA.; grandchildren Andrew Wheat, Mary Wheat, Greg White, Kenneth White and wife Dana and Joan White; three great-grandchildren Tanner, Hayden and Aubrey; sisters Marie Hammett of Ferriday, LA.; Barbara Pace and husband Coye of Lake St. John; Joyce Wiley of Ferriday, LA.; Jenni Scott and husband Bob of Alexandria, LA; Diane Dawson and husband Stanley of Ferriday, LA; Jeraline Hudson of Haughton, LA.; brother Donavan Wheat and wife Dorothy of Kilgore, Texas; Joe Wheat and wife Shirley of Doyline, LA., numerous nieces and nephews and a special friend Lorna Dauzat.

Pallbearers will be his nephews Butch Hammett, Paul Hammett, Buster Burks, Jimmy Stockstill, Michael Pace and Keister Dillinger.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Sylvester Jones , J. C. Robertson and Coye Pace.

Friends may call for visitation after 11am until time of service at 2pm Monday February 10, 2014 at Comer Funeral Home Ferriday, LA.
