Randy was born in Mason City, Iowa, to Stanley and Genevieve Nicholson. He graduated from MCHS in 1977 and shortly thereafter was joined in wedded bliss to his high school sweetheart Rhonda in May of 1983. To this union three children were born: Tracy (Charity), Robert, and Jennifer (Michael Koath) Nicholson. He especially treasured all the time he was able to spend with his granddaughter Sofia, always keeping him on his toes!

He was also involved with the Hiawatha Doodle Bug Club, River City Street Rods, and the Eaters Car Club

Randy was known for his incredible drive and work ethic. He started working as a dishwasher at Flaming Ember restaurant, then moved on to Blinder Oldsmobile as an auto detailer. He eventually moved to work for Don Hess and Company restoring and painting trucks and tankers after which he was employed by Butler and Curtis Oil Inc. which is currently known as Consolidated Energy. He went to work every day with a smile on his face, helping everyone he met and treating them like family.

Randy enjoyed all his good friends by having gatherings in his Moose Lodge, cooking, and reminiscing about favorite cars. He was very passionate about the outdoors and nature, especially evergreen trees. He spent a lot his time driving his 58 Chevy or hot rod Model A Coupe, to car shows and especially car cruises. Mini bikes soon became an incredible passion for him, and he attended the national Doodle Bug reunion every year from the day he discovered it. From there he built many Doodle Bug scooters, promoted the reunion and wore their hat with pride.

Those left to celebrate his life are his wife, Rhonda; his three kids, Tracy (Charity), Robert, Jennifer (Michael Koath) Nicholson; his beloved aunt Kay Bessman; his brothers Stanley Jr., Steve, and Rick Nicholson; as well as many beloved cousins and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Genevieve; his brother, Kevin Nicholson; as well as several other dearly missed loved ones.
