Porter was a son of James Hardin and Lillie (Combs) Ackman. A report of his death follows:

"Porter Ackman, 21 years old, was instantly killed at the High Street bridge crossing Wednesday morning about 6:00 o'clock, when he was hit by a fast passenger train No. 2.

"Ackman was employed by the railroad company as a section hand and had just gone to work. Ackman was on the south bound track back of a freight train which had just passed. He did not hear the passenger train coming and stepped over onto the north bound track when the train running at a high speed struck him.

"Death resulted instantly. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Harden (sic) Ackman, of this place and was unmarried."
