He served in U. S. Navy WW II - 1940 ~ 1943
USS New Mexico and USS Astoria.
Received 50 year Pearl Harbor Survivor medal.
Received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign bar with four stars.
Received Purple Heart from severe injury he sustained on the
USS Astoria, when the ship was attacked by the Japanese in a
4 day battle in Coral Sea in May 4-8, 1942 - Sovo Island engagement;
he suffered the loss of his right leg.
Honorably discharged from Navy on September 24, 1943
He held the rating of Gunners Mate third class when discharged.

His body was cremated & his remains were buried at sea from the ship
USS John Rodgers DD 983, Atlantic Ocean, on October 26, 1995.

Navy Memorial Plaque was placed on private property of family member living in
New York State on August 7, 2004.
