Susanna was the third child of John Hord I, Gentleman and Elizabeth Jane Hord. Her parents immigrated from England to Virginia about 1702 and eventually settled in Caroline County about 1715 on a plantation they named Shady Grove where she spent her childhood. It is highly likely, but uncertain, that she is buried in the Hord Family Cemetery at Shady Grove. The date of birth stated above is actually the date of her Baptism.
