Plainville, Ill - Wilma R Powers, 67, of Plainville, died at 3:10 a.m. Sunday (April 9, 2000) in Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
Born September 24, 1932, in Hancock County, Mrs. Powers was a daughter of Alvy and Mable Adair Sparrow. She married Gerald Powers Sr. on May 26, 1951 in Quincy. He survives.
Mrs. Powers was a member of Akers Chapel Christian Church. She was an avid racing fan and enjoyed crocheting and needlepoint. She was employed by Motorola for many years until the plant closed and later worked for Glenayre from 1984 until her retirement on May 1, 1998.
Survivors also include a son, Gerald Powers Jr., and his wife, Carma, of Plainville; three daughters, Sheryl Johnson and her husband, Dale, of Plainville, Nancy Turner of Plainville, and Patricia Ziegler and her husband, Adam, of Sturgeon, MO; six grandchildren, Josh Renner of Columbia, MO, and Jerry Powers, April Powers, Jake Powers, Justin Turner and Brianna Turner, all of Plainville; two sisters, Dorothy Newell of Quincy and Lucy Lohmeyer and her husband, Bob, of Quincy; four brothers, Donald Sparrow of Quincy, Dan Sparrow and his wife, Donna, of Hampton, Robert Sparrow and his wife, Jessie, of West Point, and Lawrence Sparrow and his wife, Twila, of Queen Creek, Ariz.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mrs. Powers was preceded in death by her parents.
Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Payson by the Rev. Chris Reynolds. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery near Plainville.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Akers Chapel Church.
