The body of Staff Sgt. John B. McMullin, son of Mr. and Mrs. John C. McMullin of 40 East Court Street will arrive here this afternoon and will be taken to Briggs Brothers Memorial Home in Homer. The remains are being escorted by Staff Sergt. Howard R. Wilson of the U.S. Military Escort Detachment.
Military funeral services will be conducted at the Cortland Rural Cemetery Chapel Sunday by Dr. Ralph C. Lankler, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, assisted by the chaplain of the Medison American Legion Post.
Sergeant McMullin was graduated from Madison Central School in 1941. He enlisted in the service in 1942 at Madison and received his basic training in Miami Beach, Fla.; Lowry Field, Colo.; Kingman, Ariz. and Dyersburg, Tenn.
He was a member of the 15th Air Force and was sent to the European Theater in October, 1943. He was side gunner on a bomber which was forced down over Styer, Australia, February 24, 1944. Sergeant McMullin was on his 25th mission. He had received the Air Medal with four Oak Leaf clusters and the Purple Heart.
Besides his parents, he is survived by a brother, Richard McMullin of Cortland; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph McConnell of Cortland; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George McMullin of Watertown; his great grandmother, Mrs. Florence McConnell; a niece, Kathryn McMullin of Cortland; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
