Rufus C. Willey started, what was to become the R. C. Willey & Sons Company in 1932 by selling appliances door-to-door out of the back of his truck. His initial sales method involved the dropping off an appliance for the customers use and returning a couple of weeks later to finish the sale. All was based on the customer’s satisfaction and, according to tradition, no one ever returned their product. In 1950 the first R. C. Willey & Sons Appliance Store, a 600-square foot appliance showroom, opened next to his home.

In 1954, after more than two decades of hard work, Rufus became quite ill and traveled to California in an attempt to rest.

In June 1954 after returning from California Rufus Willey was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer which proved to be fatal.

R.C. Willey is now the top selling furniture store in Utah and has recently branched out to Nevada and California.
