Thelma Marie Regester Smith Welch

Thelma Welch passed away at the age of 87 on October 4th, 2014 at her home in Emmett, Idaho. Thelma was born January 6th, 1927 in Clay Center, Kansas to Edgar (Joe) and Grace (Eisele) Regester. She attended school there through 7th grade and then moved with her parents to Boise, Idaho. She attended Boise High School and later attended Boise Junior College and Boise State University majoring in Business/Accounting.During WWII Thelma married her high school sweetheart, William (Bill) Smith. To that union two children were born, Dean Wesley and Cheryl Marie. While her husband was in the service she worked for the Boise School District as a bookkeeper. After the War she went to work for Westinghouse Electric in the accounting department. She then worked 35 years for Boise Payette Lumber /Boise Cascade Corp. until retiring in 1990. Mr. Smith and Thelma later separated after nearly 30 years.
She later married Billy D. Welch of Emmett, Idaho, gaining nine step-children. Thelma and Billy had almost 35 years together before Billy passed away in 2006. Together they enjoyed spending time with their large family. In their retirement they enjoyed trips to Jackpot, Nevada.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother-in-laws, Dwayne Welch, L. Dean Welch and Ken Welch; sister-in-laws, Mary Lou Welch and Gay Welch. Also preceded by a step-son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Glenna Welch, and step-daughter Christine Welch­ Galvan.
She is survived by her children, Dean (Kris) Smith, Cheryl (Leo) Vesely, Kathleen (Dave) Tolmie, Barbara De Salvo, Rick (Nadine) Welch, Cindy (Joe) Conner, Bob (Jill) Welch, David (Sharon) Welch, and Gary (Kathy) Welch; sister-in-law, Jan Welch; 26 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett. Burial will follow at the Emmett Cemetery. Viewing will be held Wednesday from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.
