Mrs. Jeanne Miller Sanders, 88, of Dalton died Monday, April 19, 1999.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, April 22 at 2 p.m. at Wages and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Stone Mountain, Ga. with the Rev. Richard A. Dodds officiating. Burial will follow in Dawn Memorial Cemetery in Decatur, Ga.

Mrs. Sanders is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Larry Harrison of Dalton, Ga.; her sons and daughter-in-law, James Taylor Sanders Jr. of Lithonia, Ga., and Leavitt and Debra Sanders of West Point; her sister, Arlisle Gray of New Paltz, N.Y.; her sister-in-law, Isabelle Miller of Sheboygan, Wis.; her grandchildren, Bitsy Harrison and Steve Lee of Cumming, Ga., Lawrence Harrison of LaGrange, Ga., Adam Sanders, Priscilla Sanders, Jake Sanders, Hannah Sanders and Peter Sanders, all of West Point; and her great-grandson, Harrison Taylor Lee of Cumming, Ga.

Mrs. Sanders was a graduate of Beloit College, Beloit, Wis. and received her master's in special education from the University of Minnesota. She was a veteran of World War II, serving as a captain in the WAC. She served as company commander. Mrs. Sanders served as the director of Christian education of the First Presbyterian Churches of Augusta, Ga. and Albany, Ga. She began the education program for the blind in the Dougherty County Schools, and was the first teacher for the blind in the Dekalb County School System, from which she retired. Mrs. Sanders was one of the two first women eders of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Tucker, Ga., where she served in many capacities. As an accomplished pianist, she enjoyed serving in various musical activities. She was an active member of the DAR, Georgia Retired Teachers Association, Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority and an avid golfer. After moving to Dalton, she became a member of First United Methodist Church. She was the daughter of the late Roy J. Miller and Ida Hart Miller. Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by her husband, James Taylor Sanders, and brothers Randall Miller, Barrett Miller and Earnest Miller.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 to 6 p.m. at Love Funeral Home in Dalton, Ga. and on Thursday from noon until the funeral hour at Wages and Sons Funeral Home in Stone, Mountain, Ga.

The family respectfully declines the gift of flowers and asks that memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 627, Dalton, Ga. 30722-0627 or the Georgia Lighthouse for the Blind in memory of Mrs. Sanders.
