Our dear mother, Mabel Darlene, passed away in the loving arms of her daughters on October 2, 2014. She was a grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend loved by many.

She was born August 21, 1925 in Eureka, Utah to John Lars Johnson and Mabel Matilda Larson.

She was raised in Salt Lake City and graduated from East High School.

She married Dale Earl Groves on March 14, 1944. They had two daughters, Diane and Carolyn. Later divorced. She married Dillard "Tom" Thompson on October 14, 1978 in the Ogden LDS Temple. He passed away on October 31, 1982.

While raising her daughters, she worked for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. Later, she worked for Murdock Chevrolet.

She had a meticulous home and yard teaching her daughters the value of hard work. She loved to garden and especially enjoyed her roses and hummingbirds.

She was an award-winning seamstress and also loved crocheting and painting ceramics. She traveled the world and never found a gift shop she didn't like.

Family and friends gathered to enjoy her delicious meals and caring ways. She will always be remembered for her generosity and the love and devotion she showed to family and friends.

She treasured the opportunity to love and spoil her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Relief Society and Young Women.

Surviving are brother, Hal Johnson, and sister-in-law, Valerie Johnson, St. George; and two daughters, Diane Young, Springville; and Carolyn Choate (Dee) Riverdale. She has ten grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren. She has eight step-grandchildren, twenty-three step-great-grandchildren, and one step-great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dillard; brother, John Brice Johnson; sisters, Carol Hoffmann and Renee Wilhelmsen; step-sons, Gary Thompson and Bill Thompson; son-in-law, Marvin Young; step-grandson, David Thomson; and nephew, Larry Johnson.
