Rites Today for E. C. Ruckdaschel Accident Victim
Funeral services are being held at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church of Postville today, Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. for Elrie C. Ruckdaschel, 51, who passed away Sunday morning of injuries received in an automobile accident near New Hampton. The Rev. C. E. Witt, pastor of St. Paul's, will officiate. Burial will be in Postville cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. Ruckdaschel were driving to Cedar Falls Sunday to visit Mr. and Mrs. Jack Schultz and family. They were turning off highway 18 at the junction of 18 and 63, six miles south of New Hampton when they collided with a car driven by Cletus C. Meier of Fredericksburg. Mr. R. died within a few minutes after the accident of injuries received in the crash. Mrs. Ruckdaschel was treated and released at Hampton hospital.
Elrie C. Ruckdaschel, the son of Fred Ruckdaschel and Rosina Koenig Ruckdaschel, was born in Postville, Iowa on June 1, 1907. He passed away on May 10, 1959 at the age of 51 years, 11 months and nine days. He was baptized in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville on July 7, 1907 and confirmed on September 12, 1921. He received his education in the Postville Schools, graduating from the Postville high school in 1925.
He was married to Florence Swenson of Postville on June 11, 1929. To this union were born three children, Sally Ann, Patricia, and Douglas. Elrie Ruckdaschel operated a garage with his father for many years, and then operated it by himself until about seven years ago.
He was active in the life of the community, where he was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, served as president of the Postville School Board, a member of the Commercial Club and a member of the Town Council, in which office he was serving at the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Florence; two daughters, Sally Ann, Mrs. Lyle Groth of Postville, and Patricia, Mrs. John G. Schultz of Cedar Falls; one son, Douglas, serving in the Army at Fort Benning, Georgia, six grandchildren and many relatives and friends.
