Robert was born in Butte, Montana to Sophia Kappa and Robert C. McGarry. He served in the US Navy on the USS Boxer and the USS Kearsarge, and proudly participated in 'Operation Hard Tack', which conducted 37 nuclear tests near the Bikini Atolls in the Pacific Ocean.

Robert was a 50-year member of the United Association of Sprinkler Fitters, Local 483.

He was a loving father to Steven (Dana), Keith, Kevin, Jacqueline, and Robert (Tricia); a devoted grandfather to Patrick, Katharine, Caitlyn, Cody and Kristen; and a kind friend and neighbor to many.

Graveside service will be on Thurs., Oct. 9, 2014 at 12:00pm at Los Gatos Memorial Park. Reception to follow please contact family for location. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in Bob's memory to his favorite charities: Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Veterans
charity of your choice, or the United States Olympic Committee.
