Born December 30, 1918 in Burke Co., she was the daughter of the late Sally Wilson and Robert Bailey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond A. Hendrix; son, Darrell A. Hendrix; grandson, Destry Brett Hendrix; granddaughter, Lisa Smart Huffman; brothers, Ralph Bailey, Rob Bailey, Kelly Gene "Babe" Bailey, Walt Bailey, Earl "Bud" Bailey, Charles Bailey, and sisters, Liz Lowman, Jane Bowman, Mary Bailey.
Affectionately known by many as "Dick", "Dicky Sue" or "Dixie", she was a lifelong member of Winkler's Grove Baptist Church. Dick was a strong, reverent wife, mother and grandmother. She was a hard worker as well, spending over 40 years in the hosiery industry. You could find her in the garden or yard, mowing grass, bringing a smile to or sharing a joke with her neighbors and family or in the living room anxiously awaiting the start of Friday night wrestling.

She is survived by her daughters; Brenda Hendrix Smart of Hickory, Cathy Hendrix Smart and husband Bill of Hickory; sister, Virginia Bailey Yandle of Hickory; grandchildren, Lynn Hendrix, Kevin Hendrix and wife Lori, Scott Smart, Beth Smart Fonnesu and husband Robert, Eric Smart and fiancée Kristen Cooke; great-grandchildren, Kayla Hendrix, Evan Hendrix, Destry Hendrix, Jacob Hendrix, Taylor Huffman, Anthony Fonnesu, Isabella Fonnesu, Cody Smart, Michael Goodwin; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Scott Smart, Kevin Hendrix, Eric Smart, Cody Smart, Robert Fonnesu and Anthony Fonnesu.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Bass-Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Nelson White officiating. Burial will follow at Winkler's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 PM prior to the funeral service and at other times the family will be at the residence of Cathy Hendrix Smart.
