ernon C. Hammersley, Jr., 77, of Friendswood, TX passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2014. He was born on December 30, 1936 to Vernon C. Hammersley, Sr. and Melba Whited Hammersley in Wichita Falls, TX.
Vernon was a devoted Civil Servant at the Nasa Space Center for 35 years. He enjoyed many years at "JSC" or the "Space Center" forming many lifelong friends and relationships. After work, and for fun, Vern loved to fly his light airplane fondly known as "6680 Mike". He loved to attend local Air Shows and attended the EAA Air Venture Air Show in Oshkosh, WI each year.
In 1994, Vern married Sylvia Todd Hammersley. He and Sylvia have enjoyed 20 years of marriage. During his marriage to Sylvia, he was introduced to "Special Friends". He spent many a weekend coaching several special needs teams in volleyball and baseball. He enjoyed every minute of his time with the Special Friends and his son, Mark Todd.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; his sister; and his wife, Wilnah Eschman Hammersley. Both Vernon and Wilnah were proud graduates of the University of Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Todd Hammersley; his children, Kristi Mushinski and spouse Ronnie Mushinski, Vernon Scott Hammersley, Jay Patrick Hammersley and spouse Nicole Hammersley, Beth Todd Boyd and spouse Rich Boyd, Barbara Todd Wedhorn, Matthew Todd and Lisa, and Mark Todd.
Vernon cherished his grandchildren, Casey, Colin, Nick, Susan, Jordy, Jardine, Ellie, Emma Claire, Stefanie, Tiffany, Jay Jr., Benjamin, Corianne, Megan, Danielle, Gabrielle, Michelle, James, Jake and Kelvin.
