Lillian was the second child of Galen Elder Dupree and Vera Corbitt Dupree, and was born in the small rural community of Manhatten, in Manatee County, Florida. The Dupree family attended Bethany Baptist Church, in the Bethany community, and after joining the church in 1945, she was baptized in the Manatee River above the Williams Bridge, on March 18, 1945. Lillian attended grade school at Parrish School, and graduated from Manatee County High School in Bradenton, where she finished in the upper third of the 1948 graduating class.
After graduation, she moved to Mobile, Alabama, where she met her future husband. They were married in Mobile on August 30, 1952, and made their first home there, where they remained for 15 years before relocating to Monroe County, Alabama.

Mrs. Lillian Dupree Barfield, age 83 of Monroeville, passed away Monday, October 6, 2014 at Englewood Health Care Facility. Mrs. Barfield was born in Manatee County, Florida and had been a resident of Monroe County since 1967. She was a member of the Monroeville Church of Nazarene. Mrs. Barfield worked with Vanity Fair Mills as an examiner and with Ollie Supermarket in the deli and meat market. She is preceded in death by her parents, Galen E. Dupree and Vera Corbitt Dupree; her husband, William O'Neal Barfield; and her brother, Getis Evan Dupree, Sr.

Survivors include her sons, Wade Barfield and wife Tammy of Mexia and Kyle Barfield and wife Dee of Excel; her daughter, Ann Stevens and husband Michael of Monroeville; her brother, Dwight Dupree of Bethany, FL; seven grandchildren, ShawnStevens, Kayla Stevens, Chris Chandler, Skyler Chandler, Brandi Barfield, Lindsey Barfield and Will Barfield; and two great grandchildren, Zandur Chandler and Jayde Joseph.

Graveside services will be Friday, October 10, 2014 at 11:00 AM at New Home Cemetery with Rev. Kenneth Johnson and Rev. Freddie Lindsey officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, October 9, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
