Eric Hamley was born Feb. 3, 1985, to Clifford Blake Hamley Jr. and Mary Farwell Hamley.

Many of them came because of brief encounters with a gangly, dark-haired man who touched their lives in different and unique ways. Some knew him from Springdale High School where he graduated in 2003. Some knew him from Grove Street Park where he played with children or swung on a swing set. Others knew him from the places he visited on his daily route that took him past a gas station and a Taco Bell. He was remembered as an avid Razorback fan, who loved to watch wrestling on TV and play with his dog, Lucky. He also liked NASCAR racing and babies.

About 150 people packed the pews and stood along the back wall at Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale.

"He'd say, 'Thank you mom, for being my mom,'" said Mary Hamley, quoting her son. At his memorial service Monday, they all wanted to remember the Springdale man who sometimes said outlandish things and would, more often than not, leave them in laughter. "If he saw you and saw you crying, he was there for you," Bud Hamley said Monday about his younger brother, Joseph Erin Hamley, who was shot and killed last week.

Erin Hamley, 21, was the victim of having been mistaken by police for a prison escapee from Michigan. The cerebral palsy that kept him from ever learning to read or communicate effectively with others also kept him from telling police he wasn't their man.

Family and friends of Erin Hamley say he used to visit Grove Street Park every day. He made a lot of memories at the park and soon it will be a place where people can come to remember him.

He is survived by Alicia Hamley; Clifford Blake Hamley; David Hamley; David Farwell; C. J. Tankersley; Denise Allen; Brian Hamley; Clifford Blake Hamley; George "Bud" Farwell and Madeline; Bud Hamley; Sean Hamley; Justin Esery; Delsa Dutton Hamley; Joseph Erin Hamley; Maybelle Hamley; Mary Farwell Hamley; William Hamley; Clifford Blake Hamley; S. Fitzgerald.
