She and her husband played for many "barn dances" in the 1930s and 1940s. She would play piano and Mr. Armstrong played fiddle. In the 1940', she did her part in war effort by pumping gas and doing the books at the Co-op in Broken Bow. She was part of the vocal quartet called "The Harmonettes," which performed regularly in the area during that time.
