Jeffrey J. Cooper, 53, of Loudonville died unexpectedly Monday morning, Oct. 6, 2014, at University Hospitals, Cleveland, following a successful kidney transplant.

Jeff was born July 22, 1961, in Lakewood and grew up in New Philadelphia. He was a 1979 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and a 1983 graduate of Heidelberg College, and later received his master's degree from Ohio University.

He had lived in Loudonville since 1996, moving from Shelby. He was presently the pastor of creative arts at New Hope Community Church, where he began as the worship pastor when the church was founded in 2002. Jeff's career began at the Tuscarawas County Health Department as health educator, continuing with service in the human resource departments of Dover Union Hospital and Galion Community Hospital, then head of human resources with Shelby Memorial Hospital and North Central Technical College before assuming the position of human resources director with Wayne County Public Library.

Jeff was active in the Loudonville community, serving as a member of Loudonville-Perrysville Schools Board of Education from 2000 through 2012; as director and actor in the Loudonville Players; as a member of the Loudonville Community Chorus; as a coach with Loudonville Youth Soccer and Loudonville Youth Baseball; a play-by-play announcer for WZLP-FM; and as the timekeeper/scoreboard operator for the Loudonville High School boys basketball teams.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Traci L. Gribble Cooper, whom he married Aug. 25, 1984; his son, Jay M. Cooper of Nashville, Tennessee; his daughter, Hanna E. Cooper of Loudonville; his mother and stepfather, Peeper Cooper Miller and Sam Miller of Dover; his sister and brother-in-law, Robin L. and Ken Perkins of Caldwell and their son Kasey (Emilee McKee) Perkins of Parma; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, James and Jeanne Gribble of Loudonville; his sister-in-law and sons, Tami Sprang of Mansfield and Grant and Ben Sprang; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law and sons, Thad and Stephanie Gribble of Loudonville and Alex and Chandeler Gribble.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jay Donald Cooper.

A celebration of life service will be 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at New Hope Community Church, Loudonville, with Pastor Rob Paterson officiating. Interment will be in East Avenue Cemetery, New Philadelphia. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, and 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at New Hope Community Church.
