Gerald Patrick Bolen
(April 20, 1936 - July 22, 2006)

Gerald Patrick Bolen, 70, of Bruce Crossing, died July 22,2006, at his home. Jerry was the only son of Edwin Bolen and Edla Sofia(Wuolle) Bolen. The Wuolle family came to Bruce¹s in 1915. Jerry's great grandparents were Henry Wuollet and Eeva Wuollet; his grandparents were Matti Wuolle and Ottelianna Mehtala. They lived on the farm, now owned by John and Beverly Lopez.Jerry was a journeyman carpenter, glazier, and cabinet maker. He started his first home improvement business in the greater Detroit area at the age of 19 years old. He was self-employed until he came to Bruce Crossing to rebuild his sister¹s home, that had suffered damage in 1992. Jerry loved the land and moved permanently to Bruce Crossing in 1992.He continued in the construction business after moving here and also became the Building Inspector for Stannard, McMilIan, and Haight Township before he retired. His great love was golfing with his friends at Pertu's big spruce course. He will be deeply missed by Russ and Doris Aho. Jerry asked Russ to take him out on the golf course about a month before his death and was able to play four holes, three more than he thought he could do. Jerry's father, Edwin Bolen, preceded him in death in 1974. He is survived by his mother Edla (Wuolle) Bolen who is 94 and resides in St. Clair; two sisters, Beverly (John) Lopez of Bruce Crossing and Sandra(Thomas) O'Conner of Harsen's Island; three children, Lynn Tanner of Colorado, Judy Haynes and Patrick Bolen of Oklahoma; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. We will miss the loss of our brother and father greatly. The Cane Funeral home in Ontonagon is handling the funeral arrangements. At Jerry's request there will be no funeral service. We hope to hold a family memorial at a later date in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Haight Township.
