Rex is the only son of John Jr and Eppie (Mauk) Copp. He married Berniece Davis in 1923, they have four daughters: Catherine, Rexine, Lorene and Jackie.

Rex loved to travel, he visited 44 of the 48 states in the United States, Canada and Mexico before his death in 1939. He took his growing family on many of these trips.

At one time he was the editor of the "Weekly Philatelic Gossip". He had two articles written about him in the Kansas City KANSAN and one in the Kansas City STAR newspapers. His philatelic hobby was collecting first day air mail covers. He also liked to fly and had a great friend in Doctor John Brock, who took him flying many times.
