William "Bill" R. Whitmore, 68, of Manchester, NH, died September 23, 2014, at the Elliot Hospital, after a brief illness.Born in Albany, NY on December 23, 1945, he was the son of Robert and Eleanor (Smith) Whitmore. He resided in the Queen City most of his life.He graduated from Manchester High School Central.During the Vietnam War, he served with the United States Army1st Air Cavalry Division.Until his retirement, he was a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service.Bill was an active member and post commander of the American Legion Henry J. Sweeney Post No. 2. He was past chairman of the Naturalization Committee and a member of the executive committee of the American Legion Department of New Hampshire. He was also a member of the Americanism Committee of the National American Legion and the Manchester Veterans Council. In addition, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No. 146, and the National Association of Letters Carriers.Bill was an avid New England sports fan, especially of the Boston Red Sox and the Florida State Seminoles. He will be remembered for his dedication and service to the many veterans whom he served.Family members include his wife of thirty-three years, Jeanenne K. (McDonald) Whitmore; his son, Matthew D. Whitmore; his daughter, Heather D. Whitmore all of Manchester, his brother, Richard Lynch and his wife, Meredith, of Jaffrey; two nephews, Nicholas and Dean; two nieces, Mindy and Kelly; his father and mother-in-law, Dean and Darlene McDonald of MI; his sister-in-law, Denise Menchaca of GA; and many dear friends.
