Final rites were accorded here for the late Mrs. Burton M. Calkins, former well known and highly esteemed resident of Sycamore, on Wednesday afternoon from the Johnson-Van Natta Funeral Home. Dr. H. H. Hough, pastor of the local Methodist church, of which the decedent was a faithful member for many years, officiated and paid a high tribute to the life of this splendid woman. Interment took place In the family lot at the Elmwood cemetery here. The many beautiful floral offerings were evidence of the esteem in which Mrs. Calkins was held by those who knew her.

Mrs. Calkins passed away quietly early on Monday morning at her home in Techny, Ill., death coming as a gentle relief. She had been suffering from a heart condition for about a year.

Millicent Ann Holmes, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Holmes of Sycamore, was born on April 5, 1867 in this community where she grew to years of maturity and attended both the elementary schools and the high school. On June 25, 1895, she became the bride of Burton M. Calkins of Sycamore, who preceded her in death on October 18, 1943. To this union were born two children Frank B. Calkins, a resident of Chicago and Mrs. Fred (Esther) Eggert of Pasadena, Calif. The family resided in Sycamore until June of 1913 when they moved to Fargo, N.D. Six years later they went to California making their home in Hollywood and Pasadena for a few years, then returned to Fargo and after three years of residence there, Mr. and Mrs. Calkins decided that they would like to spend their declining years of life with their old friends in Sycamore, so returned here in 1940. At the death of Mr. Calkins about a year ago, Mrs. Calkins has resided in Techny, near Chicago.

The decedent possessed the fine traits of character which made her an ideal and devoted wife and mother and which acquired for her countless friends down through the years. She was a member of the local chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Left to mourn her passing besides her son and daughter are two brothers, Robert Holmes of Sycamore and William Holmes of Kingston, also two sisters, Miss Ida Holmes of Kingston and Mrs. Emma Knappenberger of rural Sycamore.
