Ray Junior Ball, 80, of Bristol, Va., went home to be with his Lord, Friday, March 15, 2002, in Wellmont Hospice House. He was a native of Abingdon and son of the late William Morgan Ball and Sarah Cordilia Nash.

He owned and operated Ray's Trading Post, was a member of Belle Meadows Baptist Church, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of Gospel Gordonaires and was instrumental in the organization of Goodson-Kinderhook Volunteer Fire Department in 1967.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Bennett Ball; sons and daughters-in-law, Emmitt R. and Rosemary Ball, Richard H. and Pat Ball, Ronnie and Jackie Ball and Larry and Renauta Ball, all of Bristol, Va.; uncle, the Rev. Ritchie Ball of Georgia; sister-in-law, Osby Ball of Narrows, Va.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several cousins; and special friends, David Hensley and Wiley Webb.

Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday in Belle Meadows Baptist Church with Brother Dewey Williams, Brother Sam Haynes and Brother Howard Robinson officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Glenwood Cemetery with military honors by Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post 6975. Pallbearers will be Emmitt Ball, Richard Ball, Ronnie Ball, Larry Ball, David Hensley and Don Bennett. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Dillard, Fred Bennett, Larry Shipplett, Wiley Webb, Dr. R. Alan Davis, Dr. James Netterville and members of Goodson Kinderhook Volunteer Fire Department.
