He was born in Scottdale, PA, February 5, 1920, a son of the late Charles E. and Myrtle Lawson Purdue, Sr.
Mr. Purdue lived in Erie for 30 years. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 22 years and served in World War II. He later worked for General Electric Company and as a self-employed hauler.
He was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, including Emmett Perdue; and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Clara M. Ashton Purdue; a son, James Ashton of North Carolina; three brothers, Richard Fray Purdue and Percy W. Perdue, both of Erie, and the Rev. Leonard A. Purdue of Conneaut, Ohio; two sisters, Helen Smith of Erie and Sarah Mills of Whitsett, PA; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
