Hays -- Alfred C. "Allie" Staab, 74, Hays, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at Hays Medical Center. Mr. Staab was born Aug. 22, 1924, at Catherine.

He was a farmer and a member of St. Catherine's Church, Catherine, and St. Joseph Council 1325 of the Knights of Columbus and Bishop Cunningham Assembly, 4th degree Knights of Columbus, both of Hays.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice, in 1970.

Survivors include his wife, Sophie of the home; two sons, Jerry of Wichita and Denny of Hays; two stepsons, David Dreiling of Hays and Dennis Dreiling of Colorado; stepdaughter, Susan Younger of McPherson; a brother, Charles Jr. of Hays; six sisters, Freida Dinges of Brighton, Colo., Otilla Leiker and Mary Lou Staab, both of Catherine, Josepha Dreiling and Geri Dreiling, both of Denver, and Rose Doerfler of Morris, Ill.; five grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Catherine's Church, Catherine, the Revs. Earl Befort and Ron Gilardi officiating. Burial will be in St. Catherine Cemetery. A parish vigil will be at 7 p.m. today, followed by a 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus rosary. The 4th Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard from 6 to 7 p.m. today, all at Brock's North Hill Chapel, Hays.

Memorials may be made to the Oncology Unit at Hays Medical Center. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, 2 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, 2506 Vine, Hays 67601.
