CHAPEL HILL — Laura Mae Harward Douglas, 86, died Thursday October 2, 20154 at her home after two years of declining health.

Born in Durham, Laura Mae was the daughter of the late Joseph L. Harward, Sr. and Neva D. Harward. Laura Mae worked at the Carrboro Woolen Mill, University of North Carolina Laundry and finally retired from the Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools. In 1950 she married Edward “Sonny” Douglas where they lived west of Carrboro ever since. She was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph L. Harward, Jr., and Ralph Harward.

Surviving is one daughter and two granddaughters, all of Chapel Hill. She is also survived by her sister of Louisburg, N.C. and her brother of Durham, N.C. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes a special thanks to her close friends for their care and love to Laura Mae during her illness. Also a special thank you to two caregivers.

The funeral service will be Sunday October 5, 2014 at 4:00 pm at Bethel Baptist Church at 9326 Bethel-Hickory Grove Ch Rd in Chapel Hill with the Rev. Cameron Curran officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
