The journey of life for Shirley Kaye Shipman began on October 3, 1941, at Mason City, Iowa. She was the first of four children that were born to Carroll Elry and Gladys Arlene Johnson Shipman. Shirley attended the Limecreek No.5 Grade School and completed high school at the Mason City High School. For two years she took an administrative course of study at the Mason City Jr. College.

Shirley met Roger Gene Olson at a party and on May 5, 1962, they were united in marriage. Shirley and Roger were blessed with two daughters, Lori Lynn who was born on March 9, 1963 and Stephanie Kristin who was born on October 5, 1966. Their two daughters and their respective husbands, Russell Bandstra and Michael De Jong, along with their grandchildren made Shirley and Roger’s marriage very special, a strong relationship, caring for each other.

Shirley was a multi-talented person and used these talents in various and productive ways. She was self-employed as a floral designer and jeweler. As well as being a floral designer, she was also an interior designer as she and Roger remodeled a nearly 150 year old home at 514 Broadway Street in Pella, Iowa.

Shirley’s skills were also evident when she became a Realtor and joined the Million Dollar Real Estate Club.

Shirley was not only self–motivated in her efforts, but also shared her talents and skills as a member of the Pella Garden Club, with the Charity Ball and at the Peace Lutheran Church. Shirley enjoyed vacations especially to Hawaii, cruises and PARTIES.

But then her journey on earth was completed and a new and better journey began on Tuesday evening, February 5, 2008, at the age of 66 years, 4 months and 2 days.

Memories will live forever in the minds and hearts of her husband, Roger G. Olson; their two daughters and their husbands and five grandchildren. They and their families are: Lori and her husband, Dr. Russell Bandstra and their three children: Stephen Andrew, Elizabeth Laine and Christopher Evan Bandstra; Stephanie and her husband, Michael De Jong and their two children: Nicholas Michael and Matthew Joel De Jong all of Pella, Iowa. Shirley leaves her aged mother, Gladys A. Shipman; her youngest brother, Scott Shipman and his fiancé, Tracy Boehmer all of Mason City, Iowa; her two sisters-in-law: Jeanie (Vance) Shipman of Tampa, Florida and Toni (Vance Shipman) Levering of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Delores Olson and a sister-in-law, LaVonne (Clarence) Olson all of Mason City, Iowa. Shirley leaves several nieces and nephews and a host of many friends. She thought of everyone close to her as a friend.
