Russell J. Erickson, 56, of 22 Southwell Road, Cape Elizabeth, ME passed away on December 20, 2010 at his home.

He leaves his wife, Teeter Bibber, and her sons, Nathaniel, Jonathan, and Benjamin; his daughter, Rilla Erickson, of Worcester, MA; and his son, Dana Erickson, of Cape Elizabeth, ME.

Born in Meriden, CT October 17, 1954, he was the son of the late Martha and Willard Erickson. He is survived by his sister, Joan Erickson Romano, and her husband, Art, of Wake Forest, NC; and three brothers: Scott Erickson and his wife, Lisa, of Westbrook, CT; Bruce Erickson and his wife, Genevieve, of Clinton, CT; and Barry Erickson and his wife, Glenda, of Fort Myers, FL; three nephews: Chad Erickson, Jesse Romano, and Neil Erickson; and six nieces: Megan Erickson, Audra Erickson, Anna Erickson, Rachel Romano, Heather Dowd, and Tracy McDonnell.

He also leaves his close friends, Mike LeBlanc, Patty O'Keefe, and Abigail Sanborn, and his Sea Dog buddies, Peter Wiles and Ron Goodwin.

Russ, a '76 graduate of Bates College, worked for Social Security for 33 years. He received several Commissioner's Citations and was "Suggester of the Year" in 2009 for work as architect and Project Manager of WAC, the national and international Case Management System which he developed with his friend and colleague, Luis Fernandes.

Russ also taught computer programming at St. Joseph's and Andover Colleges. Russ loved biking, computers, cooking, gardening, genealogy, and kayaking. He was an avid cyclist who rode to work by bike and took long trips, biking through Florida and from Maine to Vermont. He also participated in the annual Iowa RAGBRAI bike tour. He was a fan of the Portland Sea Dogs, NY Giants and NY Yankees. He was a history buff and a volunteer for Portland's History Docents Program, giving walking tours of Portland.

The family is planning a private celebration of Russ' life in early summer. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Maine, Attn: Development, 180 US Route One #1, Scarborough, ME 04074 or to Bicycle Coalition of Maine, P.O. Box 5275, Augusta, Maine 04332-5275.
