Ralph G. Hopper
February 3, 1923 – March 17, 2006

Ralph was born in Tacoma, WA, on February 3, 1923 to William and Mabel Hopper. The family spent the early years in Dryad, WA, before returning to Tacoma where Ralph attended both Jason Lee Junior High and Lincoln High School. Ralph enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 17th, 1943 and was assigned to the 119th Anti- Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion. He served with Patton's 3rd Army during WWII, and fought in a 90 mm artillery battery during the battles and campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, the Ardennes, the Rhineland and Central Europe. Following his service years, Ralph returned to Tacoma and worked for Kona Foods for twenty years before retiring in 1981. Ralph was a member of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge Association, a life member VFW 91, a former member of the Elks Club 174, and Teamsters Local 117.

Known for his kindness and good humor, Ralph was a very social man as well. He enjoyed flying, golfing and was a long time member of the Totem Yacht Club.

Ralph was preceded in death by his mother and father, brother Kenneth, and beloved sons Lee and John. He is survived by his wife Virginia (Barney) of 30 years, his daughters Penny Hoyle and Martha Lee, his sisters Jeanette Hakola and Geneva Hamill, as well as five grandsons and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two stepsons Michael Barney (Candy), and Mark Barney, three step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held on Thursday, March 23, 2006, at New Tacoma Cemetery. Funeral arrangements made by New Tacoma Funeral Home and Mortuary.
