Mary Janet Hartwig of Osage, passed away on her 95th Birthday at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Memorial services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday October 10, 2014, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage with Rev. Bruce Kaltwasser officiating. Inurnment will be in the Osage Cemetery. There will be a time for lunch and fellowship at the church following the services. The family asks that memorials be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Faith Lutheran Home.

Mary was born October 5, 1919, in Mitchell County, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer and Lela (Stewart) McGill. She graduated from Osage High School in 1938. Mary married Edwin Hartwig in 1938 and they later divorced in 1974. She worked at Leonard’s Hatchery and Montgomery Ward. Mary worked as a bookkeeper until the age of 82, for different businesses including, Hartwig Farm Drainage, Foth Plumbing and Heating, Jim Hayden Ford and Art’s Shoe store. Mary had been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, where she served as president in 1965 and also served as secretary. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Osage Fireman’s Auxiliary, and Al-Anon.

Mary is survived by her children, Sandra J. Young of Moline, Illinois, Judy (Jerry) Miller of Rudd, Iowa, Diann (Tom) Lanum of Hampton, Illinois, Kathy (Tom) Hartwig-Esber of Foster City, California; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson;

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Russell, Roger and Richard in infancy; her brothers, Marvin and Robert McGill; her sisters, Harriet Mendelson and Margery Maravetz; son-in-law, Carl Robert “Bob” Young.
