He was hired by the Sunbeam Corporation, relocating to a variety of cities during his employ. The family moved to Dayton in 1969 when he accepted a job at Huffy Corporation. He founded The Maddox Co., a manufacturer's rep agency in 1975, also owning Enerpro Distributing Co. in Columbus, Ohio and Products Marketing Group in Dayton. In 1989 Dan founded a manufacturing business, designing and producing outdoor fire pits and controls for gas log fireplaces. This company became Hearth Products Controls, (HPC) in 2001. During this time he served on the board and as president of Hearthmaster Association (HPBA). He sold HPC in 2010 to the perfect person and the business has thrived. Dan's vision of fire and water in an outdoor fire pit materialized and won awards for best outdoor hearth product and best in show during the 2013 HPBA convention. He and Connie enjoyed traveling the world together. He was a member of Normandy Church and Dayton Country Club.
Dan was preceded in death by his first wife, Marge, his mother Laura Clark, and his brother Byron Clark.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years Connie, his daughters Karen Huffman (Michael Dunipace) and Kim (Steve) Dietz, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; his stepdaughters Cindy Sheley and Susan Sheley and a grandson Trent.
