Band Since Its Organization
as Parish Military Band
in 1888.
Frank A. Zimmerman, 70, for-
mer mayor and one of the city’s
most prominent men, passed away
at 1:15 o’clock this morning at the
St. Vincent hospital, where he had
been a patient for a week. Mr.
Zimmerman had been ill for three
weeks, suffering from cirrhosis of
the liver.
Mr. Zimmerman was born April
8, 1865, in Mason City, Ill., the
son of Adam and Eliza Zimmer-
man, and moved to Raymond when
a small child, later coming to this
city, where he had since resided.
On April 10, 1895, he was united
in marriage to Miss Jennie Keller
and to this union three children
were born.
Mr. Zimmerman was one of the
oldest members of the Taylorville
band, having been affiliated with
that organization since becoming
a member of the old Parish Mili-
tary band in 1888. At that time
Mr. Zimmerman was a member of
Company B., Illinois National
Guard drill team, which won priz
es all over Illinois. He was a di-
rector of the band for years.
For a number of years Mr. Zim-
merman followed the occupation
of a cigar maker. Later he was
a salesman for the McCaskey
Register company.
Mr. Zimmerman served as al-
derman of the second ward for
several terms and on April 18,
1902, was appointed mayor to fill
the unexpired term of R. B. Tem-
ple, who moved away from the
city. He served as mayor until
April 30, 1903.
He was a member of the Board
of Directors of the Taylorville
Public Library from the time of
its erection in 1901 until 1904.
He was a member of the Baptist
church and had been chorister
there for many years, serving in
that capacity at the time of his
death.
Surviving him are his widow,
three children, Mrs. Teresa Stew-
art, wife of C. P. Stewart of this
city; Keller Zimmerman of Chi-
cago, and Glenn Zimmerman of
Springfield and three grandchild-
ren, Clark and Eugenia Stewart of
this and Glenn Keller Zimmerman
of Chicago. He is also survived
by three sisters, namely: Mrs. Ida
Hendricks and Mrs. Carrie Bed-
well of this city and Mrs. Garold
McCurdy of Elkville.
The body was removed to the
Chesnut and Pearce Undertaking
Establishment to be prepared for
burial. The body will be remov-
ed to the residence at 515 West
Market street, Tuesday afternoon.
Funeral services will be held at
the Baptist church Wednesday
afternoon, Rev. Arthur Vinz of-
ficiating. Interment will be in
Oak Hill cemetery.
