Eleanor M. Downing, 94, of Sanford, died December 10, 2001 at The Newton Center, Sanford.

She was born in Milton Mills, NH., on March 14, 1907 the daughter of Nicholas and Teresa Lorenzi Mucci.

She worked for the Goodall-Sanford Mills, and local shoe shops. Most recently she worked at the former Hillcrest Nursing Home, now the Newton Center.

She enjoyed going out to eat and visiting her family in Massachusetts during the holidays.

She is survived by her son Roger Downing and his wife Claire of Tyngsboro, MA., grandchildren Steven Downing of Tyngsboro, MA., Kevin Downing of Lowell, MA., and Karen Bursey of Chelmsford, MA. She is also survived by 6 great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends may call from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM on Thursday at Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale, Maine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM on Friday at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church 66 North Ave., Sanford, Maine.
