Irma R. Nunweiler, 89, of Springville, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011 at her home, surrounded by family members. She was born April 10, 1921 in Springville, the daughter of the late Edward and Caroline (Reiling) Underberg.

Irma worked for Ralph B. Waite’s business in the Waite Building on East Main Street, which was built to house the “AntiDolor” (anti-pain) Manufacturing Company of Springville.

She married the late Robert M. Nunweiler, November 12, 1945. Robert “Bob” and Irma devoted their lives to raising their family, earning a living and maintaining a home and small farm on Adams Road in Springville. They were also amongst the founding families of the Springville League for the Handicapped.

Irma was unending in her household chores, but also assisted with the farm and garden work. She was a devoted seamstress, housekeeper, cook, baker, child caretaker, banker, bookkeeper and teacher of all these tasks to her children. She also loved embroidery, tatting, craft projects, reading and crossword puzzles. Until recently, Irma annually donated her handmade card boxes and Christmas gift tags to the Ladies of Charity, Buffalo to be used for Christmas gifts which are given to the needy.

Irma was a lifetime member of St. Aloysius Parish. For many years she was a member of the Altar Society and, until recently, she actively participated in the various parish activities and functions.

Irma was the mother of JoAnn (late Alfred) Feuz, Sister Lois Jean Nunweiler, Rose (Timothy) Sebzda, Ronald, Mary, Joseph and the late John Nunweiler; sister of Sister St. Edward Underberg, Margaret Wagner, Albert Underberg, Alberta Hanel, Agnes Wendling and the late Leona Rucker, Evelyn Schweickert, Ruth Ott, Inez Schweickert, Angeline Ott, Mary Kruse, Joseph Underberg and Teresa Wagner; also survived by four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Thursday, Jan. 20 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. at the Smith-Weismantel Funeral Home, Inc. 271 E. Main St., Springville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Aloysius Church, Springville, Friday morning at 11 o’clock. The Rev. Lawrence Cobel will be officiating. Burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery.
