Private family graveside service for Leonard J. Crabtree, 81, will be held at Pinegrove Cemetery in Rathdrum, Idaho. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d'Alene is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Crabtree, who was born in Radhrum, died Friday. He grew up and attended schools in Rathdrum and attended vocational school in Weiser, Idaho. Mr. Crabtree served as a medical technician with the Army during World War II and was stationed at the 1st Station Hospital in Honolulu and on Kauai. He arrived at Pearl Harbor in 1942 and earn the Good Conduct Medal, Victor Medal, American Theater Service Medal and the the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal. Mr. Crabtree later settled in the Northwest and worked as a custodian at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Spokane for 28 years until retiring in 1978 due to a disability. He moved to Rathdrum after his retirement and to a care facility in Coeur d'Alene in 2000. Survivors include a sister, Leah Johnson of Coeur d'Alene; one nephew, Randy Kremer of Spokane; three nieces, Janice Dunkle of Walla Walla, Marcia Morris of Minneapolis and Linda Hodge of St. Maries; four great nieces, two great-great-nieces and on great-great-nephew.
