Sarah Ann Malissa Mooney, born about 1833 in Fayette County, VA, the third daughter of Joshua Sidney Mooney, farmer and Jailor of Fayette County married 30 January 1850 in Fayette County, to Edward (or John) Nugen, born about 1827 in Fayette Co., the son of John Nugen.

We have seen the husband of Sarah Mooney listed both as Edward Nugen and John Nugen. Our research has not determined which name is correct, or perhaps both names were used. Sarah and Edward Nugen Lived in the Laurel Creek area of Fayette County, where all of their children were born.

Thier children were as follows:
James S. Nugen, born about 1851;
Margaret Lucinda Nugen, born about 1854, died young;
Alonzo Joshua Nugen born about 1857;
Edna Nugen born about 1859, married a Randolf;
William H. Nugen;
Warren D. Nugen;
Robert E. Nugen born about 1876, died 13 February 1947, married Miss Wilson; Emma Nugen married a Rev. Bragg; Anna Nugen died 15 May 1874;
John C. Nugen died young in May 1874.
Robert E. Nugen lived and died on his parents' home place at Laurel Creek; he was the last of his parents' family to die. -
