Dorothy Tipton, 88, of Marion, passed away Friday, November 11, 2016, at Hiawatha Care Center. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 18, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion. Visitation: Thursday, November 17, 2016, from 4-6 p.m. wit a Vigil Service at 6 p.m. at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Dorothy Mae Gearhart was born September 4, 1928, in Casade, Iowa, to Ralph and Mae (O'Connell) Gearhart. She married F. Wayne Tipton on October 4, 1952, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. They were married for 57 years, until is death in 2010. She worked as a supervisor at Rockwell Collins, was a daycare provider, and was a housekeeping supervisor at Northbrook Manor.
She enjoyed playing cards - pinochle ad five hundred - as well as baking, especially pie. Dorothy was a great cook, and an outgoing person, making her home the place to gather and spend time. She was a resilient person, and will be missed y all who knew her.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne; son, Terry, brothers, Ralph Jr. and Allen Gearhart; and sisters, Mary Margaret and Sharon.
