He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II, and was awarded a field commission as a 2nd Lieutenant and the Bronze Star. Shortly after the war, he was called to the ministry and served the Lord at Round Top Baptist Church in Elizabethtown, KY; Manly Memorial Baptist Church in the Portland area of Louisville, KY; Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Campbellsville, KY; and Meadowhill Baptist Church in the Okolona area of Louisville, KY.
He is survived by his wife, Lois "Birdie" Hampton; sons, Joseph Hampton (Donna), Kenneth Hampton (Cheryl), James Hampton, and David Hampton (Patty); nephew, Kenneth Stocking (Cheryl); eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 6, 2014 with interment in Evergreen Cemetery.
