Taimi Snelma Leavelle died Oct. 1, 2014 in Garland, Texas. Born Nov. 28, 1918, in Palisade, Minn., she was a veteran of WWII, when she met James R. Leavelle, her husband of 73 years. She served others as a nurse for 50 years. Taimi defined "sisu," a word of her Finnish heritage meaning determination, bravery and resilience. Her humor was legendary and her spirit indomitable. In addition to Jim, she is survived by her daughters Tanya Evers and Karla Leavelle, two sons-in-law Ira Evers and Robert Griendling and her grandchildren Kate, Hunter and Zachary Griendling.
