Hilda J. Slayback, 73, of Connersville, Indiana, passed away at 7 AM Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Hickory Creek of Connersville Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for the past 11 days.

She was born April 1, 1935 in Nulltown, Indiana, the daughter of Benjamin Roy and Inez (McMurray) Stephens and was a graduate of Connersville High School.

For 29 years, she was employed as a special education assistant for the Fayette County School Corporation, retiring in 2001. Following her retirement, she became employed at the Fayette County Senior Citizen's Center in the Transportation Department.

On July 26, 1966 she was married to Richard J. Slayback of Connersville. Mr. Slayback died January 31, 1996.

An active member of the Harrisburg Union Church for many years, she was also a member of the Friendship Circle at the church and the local Ladies Red Hat Society.

During her leisure time, she enjoyed genealogy, and spending time with her family and many church friends.

Survivors include two children: a son, Eric Slayback of Connersville and Dana Scholl and husband, Mike of Fishers, Indiana; two step-children: Cynthia Burch and husband Thomas and Richard J. Slayback Jr. and wife, Terri, all of Connersville; two grandchildren: Tyler Scholl and Caitlin Scholl, both of Fishers, Indiana; six brothers: Dan Brown and wife, Diane of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Bill Brown of Santee, South Carolina, Steve Brown and wife, Diane of North Vernon, Indiana, Mark Brown and wife, Marsha and David brown and wife, Cheryl, all of Connersville and Chris Brown of Milton; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her husband of 29 years, Richard Slayback, she is preceded in death by two sisters: Evelyn Rose Green and Ann McClary.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at the Harrisburg Union Church with Reverend John Stewart and Pastor Bill Lowry officiating. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery. Friends may call at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home from 4-8 PM on Monday and at the church from 10 AM until the time of services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Harrisburg Union Church Mission Fund.
