She was born on May 3, 1931 in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, the daughter of Charles & Louise Thomas. Then her family relocated to California.
On January 18, 1958, she was married in Los Angeles, California to Don E. Day of Connersville, IN, who at the time was serving in the U. S. Navy and was stationed in Long Beach, California. They had resided in the Los Angeles area until moving in 1961 to Connersville for residence.
Laura was a devote wife, mother and grandmother. She was a longtime member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she enjoyed attending a multitude of church functions. She had a passion for flower gardening and collecting angels and bells.
Some of the things she enjoyed most were playing board games and cards with her grandchildren and visiting with her family and friends. Laura would often be seen sitting on her porch watching the neighborhood children play.
Laura was a very enthusiastic fan of Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Don Day; five daughters, Kathy (Greg) Jackson and Chandra Nicholson both of Connersville, IN; Melinda(Calvin) Williams of Rancho Cucamonga, California, Donna (Jerome) Turner of Oxford, Ohio and Dana (Brian) Kirtz of Indianapolis, Indiana; 12 grandchildren, Greg (Elaine) Jackson Jr., Tyrone (Keisha) Jackson, Tela Nicholson, Diara Nicholson, Tristan Day, Justin Williams, Donzel Williams, Jerica Turner, Jeremy Turner, Desiree Turner, Kyera Kirtz and Donovin Kirtz; four sisters, Marie Louise (Webe) Gaffney of Maryland,Lisa Countee, Ursula Goins and Vicky Wicks, all of California; five brothers, Edward Thomas , Bernard Thomas and Malcolm Thomas, all of California, Barry Thomas of Georgia, and John Thomas of Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her first grandchild, Maurice Day and a brother, Raymond Thomas.
Home Going Services will be held at 2 PM Friday, May 1, 2009 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Pastor Jerome Weaver officiating. Burial will be at Dale Cemetery. Friends may call at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home from 4 until 8 PM Thursday.
