Richard Hume Craven passed away suddenly on September 29, 2014. He was born November 10, 1941 in Ogden, Utah to Jack and Helen Craven.

He married Diane Fern Kimball in the Logan Temple and together they had three children, Lori, Linda and John, they later divorced. After which, his marriage to Patricia Phillips was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. She preceded him in death in 2005. In 2006 he was married and sealed to Lucinda Madsen in the Salt Lake Temple and together they served as proselyting missionaries for the LDS Church in the Washington Spokane Mission. He loved serving the Lord and he and his wife were currently serving as ward missionaries.

When Richard was dating Diane and their relationship became more serious, Diane stated that she would only be married in the Temple. That summer Richard was able to find a job working on a Utah State Road Surveying Crew. He noticed there were two groups of young men on the job. One group was rebellious, whose standards were questionable while the other young men were clean cut and fun to be around. So he chose the latter, they were all returned missionaries. This group taught Richard the gospel and helped answer any concerns he might have had. It did not take him much time and he was converted to the gospel and was baptized into the church.

Richard was an accomplished architect and artist and demonstrated a love for lifelong learning as he continued studying at UNLV. He had a love for architecture and anything designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. He incorporated Wright’s eye for design into each of his projects including the home he built and various other endeavors. Other interests included camping, pheasant and deer hunting, and working on cars. He especially enjoyed skiing with his father and brothers and taught his children at a young age to enjoy skiing as well. He had a sensitive nature towards animals and loved many pets throughout his life. He shared the joy of painting with his wife. Richard incorporated architecture in many of his paintings. His latest painting, a work in progress, was of the Wasatch Mountains, a place he loved.

He is survived by his wife, Lucinda Madsen Craven of Roy, Utah, his children Lori (Ken) Olson of South Jordan, Utah, Linda (Mike) Judd of Bluffdale, Utah, and John (Angie) Craven of Enoch, Utah. Also, his brothers Robert (Kathleen) Craven of Bountiful, Utah, and Steven Craven of Dallas, Texas and his 13 precious grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 3, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Roy Utah Central Stake, 4900 South 2000 West. Interment will follow at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah.
