Jack Lansing Lindsey, age 81, of Oklahoma City, passed away January 24, 2014, at the Norman Veterans Center. Jack was born August 17, 1932, to Marvin Quint and Mamie (Smith) Lindsey in Avoca, Texas.
As a young adult, Jack attended the University of Texas and Hardin Simmons University. He served our country as a staff sergeant in the United States Army specializing in artillery. As well as Avoca, Jack also lived in Ft. Worth and Abilene, Texas, later moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and settling in Oklahoma City in 1970. He worked for Fram Corporation as district manager for 32 years, until his retirement in 1994. Before his career with Fram, he spent time as a roughneck in the oil field and as a service station manager in Abilene, Texas.
He and Martha Ann Loyd were married December 29, 1956. Martha and Jack have been long-time, devoted members of Portland Avenue Baptist Church. Jack was a deacon for the church and enjoyed his time driving the children's bus and coaching the men's softball team. He had many personal interests: fishing, golf, flying a private airplane, and skiing. He and Martha loved to travel in their motor home and traveled to numerous destinations across the country, a favorite destination each winter for 13 years was to Rio Grande Valley in Texas. Jack was also a 32nd Degree Mason and spent a great deal of time dedicated to the charitable contributions of the lodge. He loved bluegrass music, OU and Dallas Cowboys football, Texas Rangers baseball, and stock car racing. His most cherished time was spent with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Martha of the home; daughter, Karen Martin of OKC; son, Gary Lindsey and wife Erin of Savannah, GA; brother, Tommy Lindsey of Avoca, TX, and sister, Betty Petty of Visalia, CA. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Renee Sams and her husband Cory of Edmond, Matthew Cotter and wife Kim of Yukon, Lindsey Dickerson and husband Drew of OKC , Gabrielle Martin of OKC; Easter, Faith, Seth, Noah-Christian, Ellianna, and Solomon Lindsey, one great-grandson, Jett Dickerson, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and numerous extended family and friends. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Adele Jones, Dixie Watts, Delores Paige, Nellie Lindsey, and daughter and son-in-law, Bridgett and Gary Cotter.
Jack's family would like to extend their most sincere thanks to the wonderful people at Norman Veterans Center and Valir Hospice for their loving care and going above and beyond.
The family will be available to greet friends during visitation at the funeral home, Monday evening, January 27, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at Portland Avenue Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. His final resting place will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
