Widowed when he died. Employed as a Gate Tender on the railroad.

NOTE: In 1840, his father was residing in Mauch Chunk, Northampton, PA. Northampton County was later subdivided and renamed Carbon County.

The 1850 Census shows John and his parents located in Mauch Chunk, Carbon, PA: Parents John Fritz 38 & Maria Fritz 35; Harriet Fritz 15 Amanda Fritz 14 Thos Fritz 13 Micheal Fritz 11 Chas Fritz 9 Angeline Fritz 7 John Fritz 5 William Fritz 3 Catherine Fritz 1, Catherine Hoffman 53 (his grandmother) & Chas Fritz 31, his uncle.

Mauch Chunk was renamed in 1953 to Jim Thorpe, but as John Fritz was born in 1840, Mauch Chunk would be the correct listing. The Mauch Chunk name is not on the Findagrave list of cities in Carbon County.
